A Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for Joint Development Zone (JDZ) Block 3 was signed on 14 March 2006.
Ophir has a 4% interest in Block 3, which is operated by Addax Petroleum (66%). Block 3 was awarded following successful application in the Second Joint Development Authority (JDA) licensing round.
The JDZ area is jointly administered by the Governments of Nigeria and São Tomé/Principe through the JDA. The JDZ covers an area of 35,000km2 situated in the south-eastern part of the Niger Delta complex in water depths ranging from 1,500 to 2,600m.
The Block 3 Joint Venture drilled the Lemba-1 well during 2009. The well encountered a gas column which is considered to be sub-commercial. Exploration phase 1 was extended to 13 September 2010, to allow the well results to be fully evaluated.
